Tutoring

Get the Support You Need

Megan tutors undergraduate students in:

  • Clear writing: mechanics, grammar, concision
  • English Literature

The First Session

During the initial one-hour session, we:

  • Discuss your needs, and
  • Work with you to determine how we can help you learn the skills you need to succeed in undergraduate English courses and with undergraduate-level writing.

We spend the remaining time in the first session tutoring you, so we can get a sense of each other.

Thereafter

For each tutoring session–all of which occur over Zoom–you’re in control of when it is, how long you book for that session, and what we work on. You can always ask for our recommendations and we’ll always offer guidance about what we see benefitting you most. Let us help you to understand your assignments, literary course content, and how to write at this level and excel at it!

If we both decide to continue working together, payment is due by e-transfer at the end of each session.

Our tutoring rate is $65/hr (CAD). And for every hour of tutoring, we offer 10 minutes of support by email at no cost. Beyond that, we charge for email support at our regular tutoring rate in 15-minute increments. We offer tutoring sessions in half-hour (30-minute) increments.

Please note: for Canadian residents, our rate is $65 + tax.

We also offer editing services for our tutoring clients at the same hourly rate, charged in 15-minute increments. Please note that our editing of student work does not involve in any way changing it, but instead we offer constructive feedback, prompting questions, and suggestions that dovetail with your classroom learning and the content of our tutoring sessions.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I am very happy and fortunate to have found Megan as my English Literature tutor! She is supportive, kind, patient, encouraging, and an amazing tutor. I have learned so much from her and have seen my writing, editing, and analysis skills steadily improving over this year; I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am today, in my studies, if it weren’t for her. I look forward to continuing to work with her and believe anyone to be lucky to have her as their tutor.

Disclaimer

Since tutors aren’t the ones who assign or mark the assignments or course content that we help you to understand and work through, we cannot guarantee any marks-based outcomes as the result of tutoring. As with all learning, you will get out of this what you put into it.

We’re here to help you understand how to work effectively, and we will break down assignments and the feedback that you’ve received on them, and discuss with you information that you are learning or encountering in class in ways that are optimized for your particular strengths and needs.

Tutoring is a mutually-rewarding experience, as long as you’re here to tackle the challenges that come with learning new material in new ways. Together, we’ll build mutual respect and, over the medium- to long-term, and if we keep working together and you keep doing your best, you will see your increased skills reflected in your marks.

As a special bonus, you’ll likely find that your appreciation for the subject matter grows as you become more skilled at close reading and academic writing.

Please note: we cannot write or change student work in any way at any point in the tutoring process. When we reference “editing,” we always mean that we can only ever make suggestions and give our authors specific prompts, but they must do all of the writing, both at the initial drafting and throughout the editing stages of every writing assignment that they undertake. We take these professional editorial standards very seriously and thank you in advance for approaching them in the same way.
