Need help structuring or polishing that manuscript? Whether it’s an article or dissertation chapter or a full dissertation or monograph, we can help! We are experts in facilitating the writing process. We learned our skills the hard way: by surmounting the many challenges of writing a book-length research project. We specialize in diagnosing sources of unclarity and offering you tailored, effective solutions to help you move from frustrated to flourishing.
We each have more than a decade’s worth of experience teaching at the university level in writing-intensive courses. This has given us familiarity with complex subjects and the specific demands of writing in them. Between us, we cover the range of humanities, social sciences, and hard sciences. For more information about our specific subject areas, see About Us.
Our Services
- Developmental editing: clarifying and nurturing your writing ideas at the paragraph level. Usually, developmental edits are most effective as part of an iterative process, where we work with you to restructure and smooth out connections between your ideas over the course of multiple drafts. For this type of editing, we strongly recommend an iterative process;
- Copy editing: polishing work for concision, grammar, and effectiveness at the sentence level. Usually, copy editing requires a double pass so that we can ensure the most polished version of your manuscript and is often completed as a single project–but you will always have the option of requesting iterative edits;
- Dissertation and Master’s thesis editing: from comprehensive edits to copyedits, we help you to finish your degree by polishing dense academic writing. We offer you feedback to clarify your dissertation’s or thesis’s structure, and we provide you with comprehensive edits for clarity and concision;
- Formatting and references: based on style guides, authors’ guidelines, and institutional conventions; and
- Long-form fiction editing: clarifying structure, polishing prose, and teaching relevant elements of novel-writing.
As the client, you drive the process for all editing work that we do. As your editors, we offer you guidance about the best approach for your piece of writing and timeline as needed, and with our edits, we provide you with structure, argument, and grammar, as needed.

When You First Approach Us
In order to develop a personalized quote for you, we will need you to:
- Send us a writing sample of roughly 4 pages from the project for which you want the quote;
- Let us know the total word count for your project;
- Let us know your deadline and when you will send us your manuscript;
- Let us know which type(s) of edits you’d like; and
- Let us know whether you’d like one set of edits (the industry standard for this is one double pass of your manuscript) or an iterative process, where we’ll work together on usually about three rounds of developmental edits, often with copy edits as part of the third round of edits.
This information will enable us to give you a personalized quote, since everyone’s writing is unique and since, even from one project to the next, you may want different levels of edits and writing support.
What Happens Next?
Once we’ve been in touch with you by email, we’ll find a mutually agreeable time for a 15-30-minute complimentary Zoom call to discuss your project, anything that you’d like us to focus on as we edit your manuscript, and your approach to being edited. This is our chance to get to know each other, and we’ll take you through our questions and invite you to tell us about what you need and how we can best support you through our work with you on your manuscript.
Then…
After our Zoom call, we’ll prepare a contract that includes the quote that we presented to you during our Zoom call. The contract that we send you will include the deposit amount that we will require before we can begin work on your project (this will be 50% of the project cost for all projects over 250 CAD) our hours-based range of time that we estimate your project will take us, whether we’re doing a series of iterative edits or a single round of edits, and when we’ll receive the manuscript from you and the time range within which we’ll return it. We’ll email you the contract for you to read over and sign.
Once you receive the contract, please be in touch! If you have questions, by all means ask them! Once we receive the signed contract from you and the deposit, we will be ready to begin working on your manuscript.

Our Rate
Our rate for editing services is $85/hr (CAD), charged in 15-minute increments. For Canadian residents, our rate is $85 + tax.
We use the chart included here as a basis for time estimates for copyediting double-spaced pages, as developed by Amy Einsohn. Estimates vary based on the nature of the writing in question and the level of editing requested and/or required by the text.
If you’re interested in contacting us for an estimate, please send us the manuscript in question and your desired turnaround time and we’ll be in touch!
Yes! We Have a Rush Option!
If you’re in a hurry to get your chapter or article edited, let us know! We can typically accommodate an accelerated timeline for developmental and/or copy edits (usually, this means a 7-10-day turnaround for article- and chapter-length manuscripts) at our rush rate. Our rush rate is 95 CAD/hr + tax (in all cases, tax is applied only to invoices for Canadian residents).
Please note that our turnaround times are calculated from the time that we receive your signed contract AND the copy of your chapter or article that you would like us to edit.
What You’ll Get
We will work with you to ensure that we provide you with the best type of edits for your project, and we will always give you the best quality and fastest turnaround times that we possibly can.
When we return your edits to you, you will receive:
- A Microsoft Word file of your manuscript with our edits–all of which are suggestions–captured using “Track Changes,” so that you can see every edit that we have suggested. For instructions about how to use “Track Changes” and how to toggle between the different “mark-up” options in Track Changes, please follow this link.
- A second Microsoft Word file that includes our Editorial Letter and Style Sheet that we have created for your manuscript, which includes notable elements of your document’s style and our high-level and, where relevant, more in-depth notes to you about how to keep levelling up as a writer.
We are always available to meet over Zoom and we are very responsive by email. When you work with us, you get us as your cheerleaders from the time that you send us the signed contract and your deposit for your project through the end of time! Although we require signed contracts and deposits on a project-by-project basis, we will always be rooting for you and we hope to work with you well beyond our first project together.
We feel honoured to get to work with you. We know how vulnerable being edited is, and we take this responsibility seriously. We are here to encourage you and to provide you with the level of support that you specifically need with each project.
Our job is to help you to connect with your audience more directly and to help your voice to speak more clearly on–and beyond–the page.
We can’t wait to point out to you the great strengths of your authorial voice and of your approach to your project, to help you identify and address any areas for improvement in your writing, and to help you gain more confidence and develop your prose, so that you can be more and more successful as an author–exactly as you are! Let’s work together. It’s time to flourish!
